SYSTEMIC REGENERATION

Vaera possess a regenerative system substantially more extensive than ordinary wound repair. Damage does not initiate only closure and replacement of injured tissue. When sufficient viable structure remains, the organism can activate a coordinated reconstruction process involving multiple tissues and physiological systems.
This capacity is an expression of directed morphogenesis. Cells surrounding an injury do not simply reproduce lost mass. They reorganize according to developmental information retained within the surviving organism, allowing damaged structures to be rebuilt toward a functional anatomical state.
Regeneration therefore depends upon biological continuity. Viable tissue, preserved structural information, adequate circulation, energy reserves, and suitable physiological conditions must remain available. The organism cannot reconstruct itself from the absence of such continuity, and regeneration does not constitute recovery from biological death.
The scale of repair determines its cost. Minor injuries may be resolved through processes close to ordinary healing, while extensive reconstruction requires progressively greater time and metabolic expenditure. During major regeneration, resources normally available for activity, adaptation, and other physiological functions may be redirected toward restoration.
Not all damage is recoverable. Destruction that removes too much viable tissue, interrupts essential systemic function, or eliminates the biological organization required to guide reconstruction can exceed regenerative capacity. The system therefore provides exceptional resilience, but not invulnerability.
Regenerated structures are not arbitrary replacements. Reconstruction remains constrained by the inherited developmental architecture of the individual and by its existing biological state. Directed morphogenesis can restore and reorganize viable anatomy, but it cannot freely generate forms outside the developmental possibilities of the Vaera lineage.
Systemic regeneration is therefore best understood not as rapid healing, but as controlled biological reconstruction. It allows Vaera to survive injuries that would be irreversible in many terrestrial organisms while preserving a fundamental limit: regeneration requires a living biological system from which restoration can proceed.
