TO PERCEIVE AN EVENT

Vaera perception begins with relations. Human language often separates the world into a visible object, a sound, a smell and a later interpretation. The Vaera nervous system tends to receive a changing event whose parts are already connected. A cup beginning to fall includes the angle of the table, tension in the hand, the trajectory of liquid, likely fracture and the paths opened by what spills. The event is not prophecy. It is a model assembled from unusually dense present evidence.

The model extends across time. A current state is held beside prior states, possible next states and causal relations to other events. This makes Vaera prediction powerful, but not certain. As uncertainty grows, the model opens into multiple corridors. When another conscious being chooses, the field must be revised. Vaera use neyr for the region in which even the amount of the unknown is unknown. Training requires them to mark that boundary rather than disguise it as confidence.

They do not read minds. Another person's fear, illness or attention may be inferred through breath chemistry, muscular tension, heat, rhythm and movement. These signals can be extremely revealing, yet a private thought remains private. A human can lie verbally while the body contradicts the performance; a Vaera can still misunderstand what that contradiction means.

Memory is neither photographic nor infinite. The most recent centuries may remain richly accessible. Older experience is compressed into events, relationships, decisions and emotional tone, then partly reopened by place, touch, chemical signature or frequency. Each act of remembering alters the route by which the memory is reached. External records exist not to replace memory but to resist it, compare with it and preserve uncertainty when the witness has changed.

This is also why continuity matters more than unchanged matter. Tissue can be renewed and atoms exchanged while the same person persists through connected perception, memory, intention and relationship. If the neural organization that carries those connections is fully broken, a later reconstruction may possess the same information and still be a new person. Perception is not merely what a Vaera knows. It is part of what the Vaera is.

Sensitivity produces vulnerability. Rain can overwhelm chemical and mechanical resolution. Dense cities fill floors, walls, air and electrical fields with competing signals. Young Vaera often receive too much, not too little. Education begins with varin and selith: deliberate blind areas, selective attention and the temporary reduction of irrelevant input.

Attention is therefore ethical. The ability to detect a change in another body does not grant permission to follow it. Privacy is not created only by hiding information; it is also created when an observer refuses to use what is available. A mature Vaera is measured as much by what they decline to perceive as by the reach of their senses.
