Earth forms approximately 4.54 billion years ago. Stable liquid water is present by at least 4.4 billion years ago, and a common microbial biochemistry is established by roughly 3.8 to 3.5 billion years ago. Oxygenation, eukaryotic cells and multicellular animals progressively expand the energy and organization available to life. By about 520 million years ago, early chordate and vertebrate inheritance provides the body plan from which the distant Vaera line will emerge.

PROTO-VAERA
DATE / 430 - 300 MILLION YEARS AGO
Aquatic vertebrate precursors integrate pressure, electrical, thermal and chemical information into a shared model of their surroundings. Between approximately 383 and 359 million years ago, the Vaera root diverges within a lung-using tetrapodomorph lineage. From 330 to 300 million years ago, the wider vaeriform radiation begins, eventually producing Silar, Nerai, Elyra and Vaera.

TERRESTRIAL TRANSITION
DATE / 359 - 330 MILLION YEARS AGO
During the Coastal Threshold, the ancestral lineage moves among freshwater channels, flood forests, estuaries, tidal flats and oxygen-poor lagoons. Internal limb structures bear weight and stabilize objects while lungs, skin and throat tissues support life across water and exposed ground. The lineage never becomes fully terrestrial; instead, it learns to recognize continuity across environments that repeatedly change state.

AQUATIC RETURN
DATE / 270 - 233.2 MILLION YEARS AGO
The Vaera branch turns decisively toward the sea as Pangaea dries and coastal habitats fragment. The end-Permian extinction around 252 million years ago reduces populations to scattered refuges and selects for oxygen storage, metabolic suppression and distributed circulation. The following 18.8 million years are the Long Sea, when reproduction, care, learning, sleep and tool use become fully aquatic.

VAERA CIVILIZATION
DATE / 245 MILLION - 1 MILLION YEARS AGO
The Age of Three Voices leads to the First Current around 233.2 million years ago: living settlements, specialized care, gradient energy and records that outlive an individual. Monopoly and ecological collapse fracture this world twice, first with the loss of the Nerai and later the Elyra. Rebuilt through distributed archives, planetary monitoring and directed biology, Vaera civilization reaches a mature planetary scale approximately one million years ago.

WITHDRAWAL
DATE / 300,000 - 100,000 YEARS AGO
As Homo sapiens develops symbolic culture and expanding societies, Vaera reduce their visible surface presence. Active infrastructure moves into deep ocean and subterranean nodes; human-specific phenotypes and identity protocols become more sophisticated. The purpose is not to erase evidence, but to prevent working Vaera technology from determining the path of an independently evolving intelligence.

HUMAN CIVILIZATION
DATE / 300,000 YEARS AGO - PRESENT
Humanity becomes the first independent Earth person lineage outside the vaeriform family. Vaera observe without treating humans as descendants or subjects. The nuclear threshold of 1945 reveals that human decisions may eventually close planetary futures, yet humanity also creates its own science, protest, treaties and moral limits. Intervention remains possible only at the edge of near-certain, irreversible loss.
2012
ROME / 2012
Rain and geological collapse expose an Immutable Record near the ancient Rome archive node. The record bonds with Deniz Ergin, translating Vaera relations into human language while releasing dangerous physical knowledge. A week of pursuit ends with the book and one memory card recovered, but a second card survives outside the Vaera model. The Separate Flow is preserved only by committing the violation it was meant to prevent.
